Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS)

The City participates in the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS), a defined benefit pension plan that provides retirement, disability, and survivor benefits to eligible public safety employees. PSPRS is designed to offer long-term financial security for those who serve and protect our community.

Coverage Highlights

• Defined Benefit Plan: Provides a guaranteed lifetime monthly pension based on years of service and final average salary

• Member Contributions: Employees contribute a fixed percentage of their gross pay (as determined by PSPRS)

• Employer Contributions: The City also contributes on your behalf to fund the plan

• Retirement Eligibility: Members may retire with a full pension based on a combination of age and years of credited service (per PSPRS guidelines)

• Disability & Survivor Benefits: Provides protections if you become disabled on or off duty, and survivor benefits for eligible dependents

Costs to Employees

• Contributions are pre-tax and automatically deducted from your paycheck

• The contribution rate is set by PSPRS and may change annually

• The City contributes a significant amount in addition to your contributions to fund your retirement benefits
