If You’ve Been Bitten by an Animal 

Take the following steps immediately: 

  1. Seek medical attention. 

  1. Try to remember where the animal was last seen. 

  1. Get a clear description of the animal. 

  1. Contain the animal only if it is safe to do so. 

  1. Call Animal Enforcement at (928) 763-1999. 

An officer will quarantine the animal, if needed, and file a report. This helps ensure public safety and determine rabies risk. 

Keep Pets Safe in the Summer Heat 

Hot weather can be dangerous for pets. Animal Enforcement Officers remind you: If it’s too hot for you; it’s too hot for them. 

Follow these summer safety tips to protect your pets: 
  • Provide water and shade. Always make sure your pet has access to fresh water and a shaded area. 
  • Use a wading pool. A shallow kiddie pool is a great way for pets to cool off outdoors.
  • Never leave pets in a vehicle. Even with windows cracked, temperatures inside a car can rise by 20 degrees in just 10 minutes. Leave pets at home.
  • Avoid hot pavement. Walk dogs in the early morning or evening to prevent burned paw pads.
  • Do not leave pets alone for more than 24 hours.
  • Use safe tethering practices. If your pet must be tied up outside, the line should be at least 10 feet long. Ensure constant access to shade and water. 
Watch for signs of dehydration: 
  • Excessive drooling
  • Lethargy
  • Bloodshot eyes
  • Loss of skin elasticity 

If you think an animal is suffering from heat exhaustion, it must be cooled down immediately. Move it to a shaded area and cool it with wet towels. Control the animal’s temperature before offering water and never force it to drink. 

What should I do if I see a dog left in a hot car? 

If you believe a pet is in distress due to heat: 

  • Call 928-763-1999 immediately. This will connect you to emergency dispatch. 

  • Stay nearby and monitor the situation until an officer arrives. 

Where can my dog run off-leash? 

Bullhead City provides two fully enclosed, off-leash dog parks: 

  • Community Park 
    1251 Highway 95 

  • Rotary Park 
    2315 Balboa Drive 

Both parks are located near the scenic Colorado River.
Outside of these parks, dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. 

Does my dog have to wear a Bullhead City license tag? 

Yes. Dogs are required to wear a current Bullhead City license tag at all times. 

This tag helps Animal Enforcement Officers contact you if your pet is lost. To get a license: 

  • Visit the Bullhead City Animal Shelter at 2270 Trane Road. Bring proof of current rabies vaccination from a veterinarian.
  • Licenses are available for one to three years, based on your pet’s vaccination record.

TLC Veterinary Services (TLC) provides low-cost vaccines clinics at the Bullhead City Animal Shelter monthly. Call TLC at 480-699-9950 or visit their website to see clinic dates!

These clinics are first-come, first-served. No appointment necessary. 

How many dogs or cats can I have at my residence? 

Residents in Bullhead City may own up to three dogs and three cats, each over four months old, per household. 

I’m moving to Bullhead City and have more pets than the limit. What should I do? 

If you’re relocating to Bullhead City and have more than the allowed number of pets, you may be eligible for a Pet Fancier Permit. 

To qualify: 

  • Apply within 90 days of establishing residency.
  • Have no previous animal violations or enforcement contact.
  • Provide a rabies certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian. 

You must purchase a license for each dog or cat within 30 days of acquiring the animal or bringing it into city limits. 

What should I do about feral or stray cats near my home? 

Animal Enforcement recommends: 

  • Do not feed feral cats.
  • Avoid feeding pets outdoors, which can attract wildlife such as coyotes, skunks, and raccoons. 

Limiting food sources helps reduce the presence of nuisance animals in residential areas.
