Hiring Process
Benefits
In addition to earning AZ POST Certification as a police officer, you will receive:
- 11 paid holidays annually
- 12 personal days annually
- Graduated vacation days starting with 10 days annually
- Membership in the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System
- Employer-paid health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance (dependent coverage available)
- Uniform and equipment provided at initial employment

Testing and Interview
Once your application is reviewed, you will receive written notification of your test date.

Written Test: A minimum score of 70% is required to advance. Study guides are available through the Bullhead City Police Department.

Interview and Physical Agility Test: Applicants must pass the panel interview with at least a 75% and complete the physical agility test to continue.
Background Phase
Qualified applicants will complete a background investigation, which includes:
- Background interview
- Polygraph examination
- Psychological evaluation
If you successfully complete this phase, your file will be reviewed by the Chief of Police for a final hiring decision.
Training Academy
All new recruits attend the Western Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy (WALETA) in Lake Havasu City.
- 21-week, Arizona POST-certified program
- “Live-in” academy setting
- Paid employee status during training, with an hourly rate of $30.00
