The Colorado River Nature Center (CRNC) is a 500-acre natural area located within the city limits of Bullhead City. It is managed through a Cooperative Management Agreement between the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD), the City of Bullhead City, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Recreation and Activities

The Nature Center is open for day use only. Popular activities include:

  • Beach access: Rio Lomas Beach is a favorite summer spot for cooling off in the desert heat.

  • Hiking: Eight trails start near two kiosk parking areas. A paved educational trail winds around the backwater ponds, featuring wildlife signs, benches, and a shaded ramada with picnic tables.

  • Fishing: Permitted in accordance with Arizona regulations R12-4-207 and R12-4-301.

  • Camping: Overnight camping is prohibited.

  • Hunting and firearms: Not allowed at the Nature Center.

  • Be alert for venomous snakes, especially diamondback rattlesnakes that shelter in shrubs and vegetation during summer months.

  • Keep dogs leashed for their protection.

  • Expect wide temperature ranges:

    • Winter: 20°F lows; mid-60s highs

    • Summer: 60–80°F lows; up to 118°F highs
