Income Protection Insurance
The City provides income protection benefits to support you if you are unable to work due to illness, injury, or a work-related accident. These programs help protect your financial security during periods when you cannot earn your regular paycheck.
Coverage Highlights
Short-Term Disability (STD)

Provides income replacement if you are unable to work due to an extended illness or non-work-related injury

Benefits begin after you have missed 14 consecutive calendar days of work
-
Pays 66⅔% of your regular base pay for a period determined by the City’s disability carrier
-
Benefit duration will never exceed 11 weeks

You may use accrued vacation or personal leave to cover the remaining 33⅓% of pay
-
Available after you have worked 1,040 hours (about 6 months)

Fully paid by the City
Long-Term Disability (LTD)
-
Provides continued income replacement if you remain unable to work due to non-work-related illness or injury
-
Benefits begin after you have been unable to work for 90 consecutive days
-
Pays 60% of your regular base pay while you remain disabled under the policy definition

Coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month following one month of employment

Fully paid by the City
Workers’ Compensation
-
Provides protection for job-related injuries or illnesses
-
Fully funded by the City, and separate from STD and LTD
-
Injuries must be reported immediately to your supervisor to begin the claim process
Costs to Employees

There is no cost to employees for STD, LTD, or Workers’ Compensation coverage

All premiums and claim costs are fully funded by the City
Accessing Your Benefits

Short-Term and Long-Term Disability: File a claim through our Human Resource Specialist

Workers’ Compensation: Report the injury or illness to your supervisor immediately and complete the required claim forms

HR can help you coordinate leave, pay, and benefits while you are out of work
