Human Services
The City of Bullhead City offers programs through the Human Services department that directly support residents, especially those who need help with their animals, health, safety, mobility, or daily independence. These services make a real difference in people's lives. Many programs receive funding from the federal government. The City also works with local, state, federal, and non-profit partners to provide these services and reach more people in our community.
Coming Soon: Bullhead City Animal Resource Center (BARC)
The City is remodeling the former Mohave Valley Daily News building into the new Bullhead City Animal Resource Center (BARC). This 27,353-square-foot facility will bring modern amenities such as a veterinary clinic, public dog wash, enhanced kennels and cat condos, viewing areas, and a pet crematorium. Construction is underway with completion anticipated by January 2026.
Once complete, BARC will replace the existing Bullhead City Animal Shelter and become the City’s central hub for animal care, adoptions, and public education. This expanded facility will allow us to better meet the growing needs of the community and provide a higher level of care and resources for pets and their owners.
Human Services Divisions
Animal Services
The City of Bullhead City’s Animal Shelter works to protect both public safety and animal welfare. Through the Bullhead City Animal Shelter, we provide compassionate care for lost, stray, or surrendered animals while working to reunite pets with their owners or place them in new homes. We ensure animals receive proper shelter, food, medical attention, and socialization, while also offering adoption and lost-and-found services.
We also promote responsible pet ownership through licensing, vaccination, and spay/neuter efforts. In partnership with volunteers, rescue groups, and the community, the Bullhead City Animal Shelter plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, humane environment for both people and pets in Bullhead City.
Pest Abatement
The City of Bullhead City partners with the Bullhead City Pest Abatement District to manage growing pest control needs. Through this partnership, the City employs a Pest Abatement Manager, funded in part by the district.
The Pest Abatement Manager works with Mohave County and Clark County to control black flies, caddisflies, and mosquitoes. These efforts help protect public health, improve outdoor comfort, and support a better quality of life for our community.
Housing Repair
The City of Bullhead City helps qualified low-to moderate-income families improve their homes through our housing rehabilitation or repair program. We secure different types of funding to support home repairs for home owners.
Our goal is to make sure homes are safe, clean, livable, and affordable. We focus on repairs that protect the health and safety of residents while also improving the look, quality, and lifespan of Bullhead City’s housing.
