Life & AD&D Insurance

The City provides Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance to give you and your family financial protection and peace of mind in the event of a serious injury or death.


Coverage Highlights

  • City-Funded Basic Life Insurance:

    • The City automatically provides coverage at no cost to you

    • Coverage amounts:

      • $100,000 Basic Life for each full-time employee

      • $20,000 Basic Life for your enrolled spouse/domestic partner

      • $5,000 Basic Life for each enrolled dependent child

  • City-Funded AD&D Insurance:

    • The City also provides $100,000 AD&D coverage for each full-time employee

    • Pays an additional $100,000 benefit if your death is the result of an accident

    • Also pays partial benefits for certain serious accidental injuries (loss of limb, eyesight, hearing, etc.)

  • Optional (Voluntary) Life Insurance:

    • You may purchase additional life insurance coverage for yourself

    • You may also elect supplemental coverage for your spouse/domestic partner and dependent children

    • Premiums are paid through payroll deductions


Costs to Employees

  • The City pays the full cost of the following coverage:

    • $100,000 Basic Life and $100,000 AD&D for employees

    • $20,000 Basic Life for spouses/domestic partners

    • $5,000 Basic Life for each dependent child

  • If you choose to purchase voluntary supplemental life coverage, the cost is based on:

    • Your age

    • The amount of coverage you elect

  • Premiums for voluntary coverage are employee-paid and deducted post-tax from your paycheck


Accessing Your Benefits

  • Elect your beneficiaries during your initial enrollment or anytime through the benefits portal

  • Review your coverage amounts and update beneficiaries online or by contacting HR

  • Keep your beneficiary information up to date to ensure benefits are paid according to your wishes

Tip: Review your life insurance coverage after major life events (marriage, birth of a child, etc.) to ensure your protection keeps up with your needs.
