Stay protected from unexpected healthcare costs with comprehensive medical coverage.
Medical Insurance
The City offers two comprehensive Medical/Rx plan options for full-time employees:
-
Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) Plan – Offers lower out-of-pocket costs when using in-network providers, with fixed copays for office visits and prescriptions.
-
High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) – Features lower monthly premiums and is paired with a Health Savings Account (HSA) to help you save pre-tax dollars for future medical expenses.
Employees may choose to cover eligible dependents (spouse, domestic partner, and/or children) under either plan.
Cost Sharing:
-
The City contributes a significant portion of the premium for both plans to keep employee costs low.
-
Employees pay only a bi-weekly premium share, which varies based on plan choice and coverage tier (Employee Only, Employee + Spouse, Employee + Children, or Family).
-
The EPO plan generally has higher premiums and lower out-of-pocket costs, while the HDHP has lower premiums and higher deductibles.
When Coverage Begins:
-
Coverage starts on the first day of the month following one full calendar month plus one day of full-time employment, provided enrollment has been submitted and any required payroll contributions are authorized.
-
Example: If your hire date is October 17, coverage begins December 1.
-
If your hire date is April 1, coverage begins June 1.
-
Key Points
-
The City pays the full premium for HDHP Employee Only coverage.
-
The EPO plan costs more per paycheck, but offers lower copays and out-of-pocket costs when you need care.
-
The HDHP has lower premiums and includes City contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA) — $1,500 (Employee Only) or $2,400 (Employee + Dependents) per year
