The City offers voluntary supplemental insurance plans through Symetra to provide extra financial protection when unexpected health events occur. These plans pay cash benefits directly to you, which you can use for out-of-pocket medical costs or everyday living expenses.

Coverage Highlights

Critical Illness Insurance

• Pays a lump-sum cash benefit if you are diagnosed with a covered serious condition

• Examples include heart attack, stroke, cancer, organ failure, or major transplant

• Benefits are paid directly to you — you decide how to spend the money

• Can help cover deductibles, travel for treatment, or household bills

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

• Provides cash payments for hospital stays due to illness, injury, or childbirth

• Pays a daily benefit for each day you are confined to the hospital

• Can help cover costs your medical plan doesn’t pay (deductibles, copays, transportation, meals, etc.)

Accident Insurance

• Pays cash benefits if you experience a covered accidental injury

• Examples include fractures, dislocations, burns, concussions, or ER visits from an accident

• Benefits are paid directly to you, regardless of what your health insurance covers

• Can be used to offset missed income or other unexpected costs

Costs to Employees

• These benefits are voluntary and employee-paid

• Premiums are based on the type of coverage, your age, and coverage level selected

• Premiums are conveniently deducted from your paycheck on an after-tax basis
